2 INCIDENTS REGARDING SIDE BOARDS – MINOR INJURIES

IJMUIDEN Warehouse

What happened

On 20th June an aluminium side board fell from the trailer and hit a driver’s hand which resulted in a minor injury. The IP was taken to hospital where they found out the driver’s hand was bruised. Whilst preparing the trailer for loading the driver opened the side curtain when the curtain caught behind one of the vertical side posts. This resulted in one of the side boards to fall, fortunately the driver was wearing full PPE as required, including cut resistant gloves.

On 18th August an aluminium side board fell inside the trailer and hit a driver which resulted in a minor injury - a cut on the left arm just above the wrist. When placing the side boards inside the trailer after loading the driver placed the side boards from bottom up. When finished the driver decided to re-position the lowest side board, however, when doing this, the highest side board fell down and hit the driver on the left arm. The driver was wearing his full PPE as required.

Side Boards - Cut resistant gloves

Recommendations

• Always wear full Personal Protection Equipment.

• Where there are facilities to safely gain access to trailer, first remove side boards before opening side curtain.

• When placing side boards work from bottom up.

• When removing side boards work from top down.
