Falls

In Health and Safety / Alert Bulletins posted on 12th September 2011

We have had two injuries to Drivers, unfortunately both sustaining broken ankles.

FIRST INCIDENT – Fall on same level. The driver had closed the roof using the roof pole, however the roof stopped prior to the point at which the locking pins automatically engage. The driver stepped out of the trailer on to the loading bay and proceeded to pull the locking release cable with the roof pole to retract the pins and continue to close the roof. At this point the cable separated and the driver fell back twisting his ankle.

LEARNINGS SO FAR:

NEVER use the locking pin release cable to pull the sliding roof. It is NOT designed to be pulled on with force.

Use the tab on the roof for this purpose:

SECOND INCIDENT – Fall from height. The driver broke his ankle falling from his cab unit steps.

LEARNINGS SO FAR:

ALWAYS use 3 points of contact when exiting or entering tractor and trailers.

ENSURE Safety Boots are worn
