DRINKING BEFORE DUTY & ON SITE

What Happened?

At 10.00hrs on Fri 6th April, a Driver reported for loading. It was suspected by the loading staff that he was under the influence of alcohol.

The Driver was tested and produced a reading of 69mg (the legal limit is 35mg).

Police were called and the Driver was arrested and taken to Scunthorpe Police Station, where he went before a judge and was imprisoned.

He was held for 7 days before being released. On release he was dismissed from his company.

The Drivers comments when challenged were he had only had ’just vodka and beer’ the night before!!

Tata Steel Europe and P&O Ferrymasters operate a Zero Tolerance policy with regard to Alcohol & Drugs.

All Drivers and Co-Drivers must ensure they are free from any traces of Alcohol when arriving on site.

Any Driver and Co-Driver suspected of consuming Alcohol will be tested for Alcohol and refused loading if proved positive.

If any Driver is found to be over the legal limit, the Police will be called and the matter dealt with as they see fit.
