AB14 04 Driver Injured While Sec

What Happened:

On 26th February 2014 the IP (driver) was securing a load consisting of automotive blanks which are curved in shape. While securing the load the IP reached for a strap and caught his right shin on the corner of a concave part of one of the steel packs which cut through his jeans to his leg. The IP was seen by on site medial staff who advised he should be taken to hospital for treatment to a cut on his leg.

IP received stitches to the wound, returned from hospital overnight and collected the trailer.

IP returned to his duties and carried on working.

Cut Leg

Findings:

• IP had been inducted and was wearing correct PPE (including covered arms and legs)

• Product has sharp edges and the IP may not have been aware of the risk.

• IP cut his leg stretching over the sheet pack to reach a strap.

Recommendations:

• Amend Driver Induction to emphasize sharp edges of product and cutting risks to ensure drivers are fully aware.
