What Happened?
Around 15.00hrs on 19th of January 2015 a Driver of a subcontracted haulier reported for loading at the Tata Steel Gelsenkirchen site. It was suspected by the loading staff that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The local authorities have been informed and driver was taken to the police station.
Around 17.00hrs a confirmation was given by the police the driver was in fact under influence of alcohol and the police took the driver in custody.
The driver has subsequently had his licence revoked and been dismissed by his employer for not complying with drink driving legislation, company regulations and putting others lives in danger as a consequence of his behaviour.
Tata Steel Europe and P&O Ferrymasters operate a Zero Tolerance policy with regard to Alcohol & Drugs.
Any Driver and Co-Driver suspected of consuming Alcohol will be tested for Alcohol and refused loading if proved positive. If any Driver is found to be over the legal limit, the Police will be called who will deal with the matter as appropriate and necessary.
