AB005 Self (un) loading

Self (un)loading

What Happened: Driver was asked to assist and move the product closer to the rear of the trailer, using a pump truck. When moving the product, the driver lost control and the product pinned the drivers arm temporarily against the side of the trailer and the product.

Findings:

• The vehicle was parked on a slope

• This was not the normal practice for unloading.

• The driver, although willing and helpful, was not trained in the use of the equipment

Recommendations for hauliers and drivers:

• If you are requested to assist in the loading or unloading process, please check back with your Traffic Office and with POFM.

• P&O recognises that drivers wish to be helpful, but they should not complete tasks, for which they are not trained.
