Follow-Up Bulletin: Injury from Defective Trailer door

What Happened:

While attempting to open a stiff trailer door handle, a Meet & Greet Inspector sustained a broken right finger with a severe laceration which required 5 stitches. He was unable to return to work for 9 days. this was a Lost Time Injury.

Findings:

  • The trailer had a defective sliding roof carriage. This had caused the door locking bars and keepers to be oushed out of alignment, putting the door handle under pressure making it stiff.
  • Method used by IP to open the door handles allowed his finger to come into contact with moving parts.
  • IP was not wearing the PPE gloves issued to protect the hands
