Alert Bulletin: Incidents with Roof Supports (Side Posts).
What Happened:
In the last few months we have received several incidents relating to roof supports / side posts.
Findings:
- 5 Incidents have happened on 4 different trailer types / manufacturers
- Following engineering inspection there is evidence with each incident that either equipment has been damaged and incorrectly replaced or partially damaged and not reported.
Recommendations:
- Check how many posts can be removed and Always follow the SWP that could be found on : http://www.poferrymasters.com/carrierinfo/health-and-safety/operational-standards/
- Don’t open levellers or doors in a direct field of vision and wear a helmet.
- If a forklift or crane is witnessed hitting a roof support / sidepost, report the trailer for inspection, as hidden damage may be present
- Each defect needs to be reported immediately
