Recycling of Ancilliary Equipment

The economic climate is a difficult time for us all at the moment so it is prudent to raise the issue of recycling equipment. This is an essential money saving exercise so it is frustrating to find examples of abandoned equipment:

Items such as stanchion posts and side boards are expensive to replace. Please remind all Drivers to store and re-use equipment where possible.

Side Posts Maintenance

Following on from two recent incidents of side posts falling from trailers, may we ask you to all double check your maintenance routines and defect reporting processes.

The two incidents did not result in any injuries but could have been much more serious. A full Alert bulletin will be issued on completion of the investigations.

Proactives

• A traction provider has taken the initiative to fit the below stickers to all their cabs to enforce the message of applying tractor and trailer parking brakes.

• One haulier has also fitted ‘P’ Stickers to their trailers indicating where the park brake is.

• One haulier from Poland has had the P&O Safe Working Procedures translated into Polish and has included them in their own Driver handbooks.

If anyone has any further examples of Proactive behaviour they would like to share with us then please email us at tatasafety@pofm.com
