Overnight Parking

We have had recent reports of Drivers staying overnight on various Tata sites. This in itself is strictly forbidden but it seems Drivers are littering and leaving rubbish on site also.

Drivers must be reminded that Overnight Parking and Sleeping on Site is NOT ALLOWED.

Drivers must ensure they have enough hours left on their Tachographs to enable them to be loaded and leave site before their hours run out.

Changes to RIDDOR Accident Reporting (UK only)

As of 6th April 2012, RIDDOR’s over 3 day injury reporting requirement has changed. The trigger point has increased from over 3 days to over 7 days incapacitation (not counting the day on which the accident happened).

For further details, please visit the HSE website.

VOSA (UK Road Authority) updates

Accompanying this Newsletter is a Load Security Assessment matrix created by VOSA and is now in practice from 1st April.

There is particular focus on the use of headboards in load restraint. This matrix classifies loads above headboards as Category 1 load restraint failures, with steel being a Category A product risk, i.e. HIGH/HIGH.

Please ensure all Drivers and Hauliers/Traction providers are aware that VOSA will be enforcing the Prohibition notices related to load restraint defects.

Proactives

Following on from our Alert Bulletin regarding Drinking, one of our hauliers has informed us they have already partnered with other local hauliers and adopted a firm stance on drink and drug misuse. They realise the negative impact of an employee’s substance misuse will have on all aspects of their

business operation and as a result, have purchased a “Police approved” Draeger breathalyser and initiated a random testing programme. The purchase of this machine has been shared between three partner companies which makes it a very cost effective deterrent.

They have backed this up by issuing a robust “Substance Misuse Policy” to all employees.
