PPE

Although PPE compliance across the UK with Helmet, Hi vis, safety footwear and glasses is generally good and is much improved by all parties over the last 12 months, there are a few sites where more specific items are required to be worn by the haulier. These are:-

PPE suppliers

Corby – Ear defenders (ear muff style)

Rotherham – safety boots (not shoes)

In addition to this a helmet with a chin strap is required at every site where a trailer is accessed.

A number of hauliers have taken advantage of the PPE stockists close to the sites, by sending their drivers to these places first to be checked prior to arriving on site to load. This saves the driver, the site and the haulier time, and thus money, in not being delayed or turned away to get the correct PPE. These stockists are available on our website :

Incident/Injury reporting

When a Driver suffers an injury on site, it is essential that this is reported, especially if it is a head injury.

Reporting the injury not only helps the Driver to have the injury seen to but it is important for us to know how the injury has occurred so we can determine if there is anything we need to do differently in terms of site processes or procedures.

Incident Reporting

Please ensure all Drivers are aware to report ALL injuries – NO MATTER HOW MINOR!

Red Stripe Tyre Blowout

Accompanying this Newsletter is a Red Stripe regarding a tyre blow out during inflation.

Please share amongst your Drivers/Hauliers to raise awareness of what can happen.

De-Coupling incidents

During the last month we have seen two incidents with drivers not coupling up correctly leading to trailers becoming detached from the trucks.

On both occasions, the Driver has assumed he has completed his routine as normal and all checks have been done.

Please re-iterate to all Drivers the importance of not being distracted during their Coupling/Uncoupling routine.
