Safety Newsletter 2014 04

Barry Shaw

Remember this phrase?

  • Park brake on
  • Ignition off
  • Key out

It is almost 4 years since the fatality at Scunthorpe occurred. This newsletter aims to remind all drivers of the issue of how easy it is to forget to apply the truck handbrake and the tragic consequences that can occur.

Don’t forget Trailer Park Brakes too…

Applying trailer park brakes has been one of the great successes and one of the positives to come out of the tragedy.

Let us not undo all the brilliant work that has been done by hauliers, drivers and customers over the last 4 years and use this newsletter to remind us all not to be complacent.

Keys out

Keep up the good work.....

Hauliers should continue to enforce the message about applying handbrakes and trailer park brakes to existing and new Traction providers and Drivers.

Also, hauliers should bear in mind when purchasing new tractor units, it is recommended to specify a unique sounding and suitably loud handbrake alarm to differentiate from other alarms.

So, to re-iterate the phrase at the start of the newsletter:

Remember the above simple rules and always remember:

Think What If? And NOT If only?

Stay safe everyone and have a great summer!
